D.O.C.U.M.E.N.T.A.R.Y

Like '' WOW'' Documentary eyhhhhhh!!!!

So , We have to divide into groups to this project and yeah, it takes quite a long time to finish it and tell you what? WE DID finish it. This documentary is all about the life & context of an artist/musician/singer/designer and etc.  It was really hard to find someone or a group of people and either they do not have all the knowledge to know everything about their work. But, in the end we finally found three people we could interview with. I had so many people in mind and i never give up trying . Well, lets enjoy the journey of DOCUMENTARY now yeah?

First up, a while a go, our class had a trip to ''URBANSCAPES''.  I heard a lot about '' URBANSCAPES'' & this was my first time going there. Urbanscapes is the first and only all-day ‘user-generated’ creative arts festival in the Klang Valley. As a mission statement, Urbanscapes aims to pull together communities and participants from the fields of music, the arts, design, film and other creative disciplines under a single banner to showcase the best of the local scene and beyond. The music spread is an awesome one with today’s line-up headlined by singer-songwriter Yuna. Other highlights on stage today include Tenderfist, Narmi, Love Me Butch, Narmi, Charlie Lim, Guba, Love/Comes, Enterprise, Darren Ashley, Salammusik, Pastel Lite, Dangerdisko and loads more.

The rest of the day’s stage activities will be filled up by The Trees and The Wild, Mini Compo, LapSap, OJ Law, Impatient Sisters, Twilight Actiongirl, Francis Wolf, Free Deserters, Muck, Sphere and more.

SOO, we ended up interviewing '' TWILIGHT ACTION GIRL'' as i mentioned it above. It came to a surprise that they actually spin at my favourite club ; BARSONIC @ ZOUK. One of the main DJ in the group is Calvin.  Most of the song he plays are indie songs and some jazz here and there. They were so cool and so hippie i must say. They accommodate with us really well and it was not that '' awkward''. As a DJ he compiles his favourites and plays it to the public. After everything, we had this feeling that it wasn't good enough so, we tried again with another person.
Next up,

'' HEBE''

The owner of HEBE owns  an accessory shop at the underground bridge connecting The Curve to Ikano Power Centre. Her name is Vivian , btw. Basically, she creates and designs her own accessories such as hairband,  earrings and all the girly stuff!  She was kinda shy , but she tried her very best to  demonstrated on how to make a brooch with zips, needle and thread. Even there is a bit of communication problem because she is KOREAN. But hey, everything went quite smoothly. Crafting was her hobby since young, but because of her talent, the public responded to her products so she expanded her business.

'' YENJI CLAY ''

YENJI CLAY is situated at the highest floor @ IKANO POWER CENTRE. Yenji clay owns a clay shop and also conducts classes to his students to achieve their dreams in their area of interests. Mr. Chris was so kind to bring us around and showed us his talented clays done by his students. Every student had their own specific uniqueness and talent. Everything that they did was so real, significant, and perfect. It is a tough job but they liked it.

SOOOO, Mr charles said that this wasn't a proper interview. There were no contextual behind it. After all the editing and hard work we put in, it was inappropriate for our documentary. Everything went wrong, but we learn from our mistakes dont we ?

Moving on, after thoroughly finding numbers of famous artists , they weren't free and was too caught up with things. In the end, we found an OIL PAINTER ARTIST from an award art academy '' CLAZ'ROOM''.

*tadaaaaaaaaa*

To cut the long story short, we wanted to interview Jin, but Jin told us to interview his colleuge  ''NING''because she knew a lot about the history of oil painting , the background and the meaning behind it. & she was gladly and delightful to help us!

Let me tell you more about '' CLAZ'ROOM''

The Claz’room Academy of Media Art is one of the most recently established art schools in Malaysia. Located at the vibrant and rapidly developing township of Damansara Perdana, Claz’room Academy of Media offers a wide range of courses in the arts for people from all walks of life who would like to learn the basics to advance techniques in art.
The Claz’room Academy of Media Art is specifically catered to young adults as well as those who are working as they provide full and part time course and short courses too. The academy provides the best state-of-the-art facilities and premises that offers a conducive environment for the students to fully focus on the learning process.

Ning her partner Jin, runs the business. Ning is currently in her early 20's and she's one of the people who established 'Claz'room' to hone the skills of those artists out there who need training. Ning  began to pursue this career at the young age of 16. After getting inspired by her seniors and her teachers were encouraging her to pursue her hobby towards oil painting, and she finally found her dreams. I am so amaze with her effort and hard work that she put throughout her life and she never stops chasing her dreams.

To know more about her and her business , lets watch the interview shall we? :)

enjoy! xoxo

ALL ABOUT BATIK ;

Batik is a cloth that is traditionally made using a manual was resist dyeing technique.
Javanese traditional batik has notable meanings rooted to the Javanese conceptualization of the universe. Traditional colours include indigo, dark brown, and white, which represent the three major Hindu gods. This is related to the fact that natural dyes are most commonly available in indigo and brown. Certain patterns can only be worn by nobility, traditionally, wider stripes or wavy lines of greater width indicated higher rank. Consequently, during Javanese ceremonies, one could determine the royal lineage of a person by the cloth he or she was wearing.
Other regions of Indonesia have their own unique patterns that normally take themes from everyday lives, incorporating patterns such as flowers, nature, animals, folklore or people. The colours of ''pesisir' batik, from the coastal cities of northern Java, is especially vibrant, and it absorbs influence from the Javanese, Arab, Chinese and Dutch cultures. In the colonial times pesisir batik was a favourite of the Peranakan Chinese, Dutch and Eurasians.

HISTORY ;

Batik's true origin is still a mystery. The word 'batik' has been translated to mean 'to dot'. Some translated it as 'wax writing' or 'drawing with a broken line'.
It is a very old form of art, as evidence of early batik has been found in the Middle East, Egypt, Peru, Japan, East Turkistan, Europe, as well as Central Asia (India and China) as far back as 2000 years ago. Despite its uncertain origins, batik has reached its highest artistic expression in South East Asia, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Batik was first introduced to Europe in the 17th century when the Dutch, who colonized Java, Indonesia, introduced this art form to that part of the world.

WHAT MAKE BATIK SO UNIQUE ?

Batik is a crafted fabric that needs to undergo the delicate and repeated process of waxing, dyeing and boiling.
Wax is used as a mean of color blocking in the coloring process. Every part of the fabric that remains untouched by a certain color has to be covered with wax. There are also several sub-processes like preparing the cloth, tracing the designs, stretching the cloth on the frame, waxing the area of the cloth that does not need dyeing, preparing the dye, dipping the cloth in dye, boiling the cloth to remove wax and washing the cloth in soap.
The more colors a batik fabric has, the more times it has been through the process of applying wax, dyeing, and drying, then removing the wax. The process has to happen in a precise order that will produce the pattern or figures that are desired. Additionally, the order of which colors to apply also has to be followed.
Batik cloth can be made into garments, paintings, scarves, bags, table-cloths, bedspreads, curtains, and other decorative items.
Traditional batik is synonymous with silk or cotton. The re-introduction of natural dyes and technique has expanded the scope to include unexpected fabrics like chiffon, velvet, georgette, cheesecloth and voile mostly for fashion apparel. As for batik painting, the most commonly used fabrics are cotton and silk.

BATIK PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES  ;

Even tourists also experience technique's of BATIK.

It can generally be divided into 3 types:

a) Canting (tjanting or tulis)

It involves outlining the designs using a canting, a metal pen tool filled with hot wax. Colors are then painted on the cloth and the process of the waxing, dyeing and boiling will be followed till the desired result is obtained. The process can take up to weeks depending on the intricacy of the pattern, which is why hand painted batik is so highly valued.

b) Cap (block printing)

It involves the application of wax directly onto the cloth using soldered tin or copper
strips block impressed with certain designs. The block, or "chop", is placed into hot wax and then hand stamped onto the fabric. When the wax is dry the fabric is dyed. Then the wax is removed and the pattern is visible.

c) Silk screening (screen printing)

Different screens are used according to the colors and patterns desired. The wax is applied onto the cloth using these screens. This printing method is usually used in the mass production of batik for commercial use.

After all the explanation of the BATIK, now I would like to explain MALAYSIAN BATIK.

Malaysian Batik is BATIK textile art of Malaysia, especially on the east coast of Malaysia. The most popular motifs are leaves and flowers. Malaysian batik depicting humans or animals are rare because Islam norms forbid animal images as decoration. However, the butterfly theme is a common exception. The Malaysian batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, such as spirals. The method of Malaysian batik making is also quite different from those of Indonesian Javanese batik, the pattern is larger and simpler, it seldom or never uses canting to create intricate patterns and rely heavily on brush painting method to apply colours on fabrics. The colours also tend to be lighter and more vibrant than deep coloured Javanese batik.

SOOOO, here is my BATIK that i did during our trip to the BATIK SHOP with my lecturers and fellow classmates! It was one good experience. I always wanted to learn the technique of BATIK and thankfully, i did :) I thought it was going to be complicating, but it was not surprisingly. It was so easy to learn yet FUN!

This is my final piece.

I decided to do a simple flower to represent the flora and fauna of MALAYSIA. Since it was a Malaysian Batik, the word '' FLOWER'' just hit right to my head.

Hope u like it! Even though '' i was in a rush condition'.

SILHOUETTE!

SILHOUETTE ;

Definition : A silhouette is the image of a person, an object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black, its edges matching the outline of the subject. The interior of a silhouette is basically featureless, and the whole is typically presented on a light background, usually white, or none at all. The silhouette differs from an outline which depicts the edge of an object in a linear form, while a silhouette appears as a solid shape. Silhouette images may be created in any visual artistic media.

NOW, I know silhouette is based on a solid shape of a single colour (black) and etc etc. And i know i have to follow according to the meaning. But instead of following the meaning, i have decided to present my PERSONAL silhouette with '' COLOURS'' . I mean why not? It shows more of the dark scenes, the ''DETAILS'' and also it illustrates the meaning/story of the whole silhouette. Furthermore, I love to play with colours and details because it really defines the whole picture.

I picked out one scene from SILENT HILL 2 : REVELATION because this scene shows the darkest, evil, scary , important scene throughout the movie. I combine my favourite and inspirational characters into 1 scene,  Which were :

BUNNY
LAKESIDE AMUSEMENT PARK ( SCENE)
THE GUARDIAN ( pyramid head)
NURSE
MANNEQUIN LIKE MONSTER

MANNEQUIN LIKE MONSTER

GUARDIAN

NURSE

BUNNY

LAKESIDE AMUSEMENT PARK

SO yeah, i used my imagination and ideas of combining from THIS MOVIE.
HERE GOES MY SILHOUETTE!

(close up )

As you can see, the LAKESIDE AMUSEMENT PARK is the background and the it shows the meaning of the whole picture. It is at dark and bloody. Besides that,  My favourite characters portrays the story as well.

I hope you understand the whole concept of this picture.

:D!

MOVIE TIME!

SILENT HILL (2)  : REVELATION

Basically, Silent Hill is the name of the town in the series. The town is a bit secluded and small. It has the same layout and same key locations in every iteration, but everyone sees the town just a little different. In each of the games the main characters find themselves (willing or not) exploring the town and find it abandoned and filled with horrors. The particular dangers are different for each visitor, and they are always strange. This isn’t just a “zombie town”.

The film opens with a nightmare; a teenage girl, Heather Manson, is running away from men in black cloaks in Lakeside Amusement park , but wakes up when she encounters a dark ''doppleganger'' of herself who sets her on fire on the carousal.

Her father, Christopher Da Silva comforts her, but is soon stabbed through the chest and killed by a monster with discs in its head, known as the Missionary.  Heather then awakens again, and realizes that she was still dreaming, and has been suffering nightmares that have been getting increasingly intense.

The next morning, it is revealed that Heather is a grown up Sharon Da Silva, and that both Sharon and Chris have adopted new aliases, Harry and Heather Mason, in order to hide from '' THE ORDER''  the cult. Chris has given Sharon strict orders to never visit Silent Hill. It is also revealed that Rose de silva is still trapped in Silent Hill, and in order to free her adopted daughter from the realm of the town, Rose located the Seal of metatron — although in order to do so, she sacrificed herself.

(Rose de silva)

(Seal of metatron)

In doing this, Sharon lost many of her memories, is suffering from amnesia, and has forgotten the events that transpired in the first film. Instead, in order to keep his adopted daughter safe and give her a normal life, Chris has told Sharon that her adopted mother died in a car crash on the outskirts of Silent Hill, and that her nightmares are simply dreams. It is Heather's birthday, and Chris gives her a white vest as a present. The two embrace, and Heather leaves for her first day at a new school.

On the way to school, Heather is confronted by a detective, who knows her true name is Sharon, and wants to speak to her. Heather refuses to speak with him, and during class, she reveals that she's been moving from town to town and school to school constantly for the past 6 years, and refuses to befriend any of the other students who ridicule her. After school, Heather begins to hallucinate an armless monster, and a vision of a little girl being teased by her classmates. Heather runs into Vincent cooper , who is also a new student at the school, but she rebuffs his advances.

Vincent reveals that he has feelings for Heather, and that he is a member of the Order who was born and raised in Silent Hill's alternate reality. He warns her to stay away from Silent Hill, but Heather causes the inn to shift to the Otherworld. Vincent is then kidnapped by the Missionary, and Heather is knocked unconscious. When she wakes, she finds herself in the Fog World.

She enters Silent Hill and meets Alessa's mother. She tells Heather that she is the manifestation of the good side of Alessa's soul, and that Alessa's rage controls Silent Hill. Heather tries to get Dahlia to tell her where Christopher is, but the Sirens go off and Dahlia urges Heather to take shelter and run as the world peels away around them. Heather then meets Suki,  a young woman who was dragged into the Otherworld when she got lost in Silent Hill. Heather tries to save Suki from a mannequin -like monster, but Suki is dragged away and killed.

Heather then goes to Brookhaven where she meets the grandfather of Vincent and the former leader of the Order. Leonard tells Heather that the Seal of Metatron reveals the "true nature of things" and that he has the other half, and shifts into a monster when she gives her half to him and completes it. Heather is able to remove the Seal from Leonard's body, killing him, and she goes to locate Vincent.
She finds him in a room full of demonic nurses , who have just finished killing two members of the Order. She saves him, and the two go to Lakeside Amusement Park to find Chris.

At the park, Vincent kisses Heather and then distracts the sect of the Order. Heather makes her way to the carousel, where she meets Dark Alessa, the manifestation of the dark side of Alessa's soul. Dark Alessa morphs into Memory of Alessa, a darkened version of Heather. She tells Heather that they are one, and that she is a demon because she is the darkness of the soul. Heather and Alessa merge and become one person again, making Heather a complete incarnation of Alessa.

Heather finds the sanctuary beneath the amusement park, and tries to free her father. There, she is confronted by Claudia Wold , the new priestess of the Order and the mother of Vincent. Heather gives Claudia the Seal of Metatron. Because it reveals the true nature of one's self, Claudia transforms into the Missionary — at this point, it becomes clear that Claudia was the being who murdered Douglas, her pawn, and kidnapped Vincent in Jacks Inn. When Claudia attacks Heather, Pyramid Head , Alessa's "guardian and executioner", goes to Heather's defense, killing Claudia.

Upon returning to the entrance of Silent Hill, Vincent notices that the ashes have stopped falling, and Heather speculates that things will change, though Chris corrects her, claiming that it is still a town of lost souls. Chris, Vincent and Heather leave Silent Hill together, but Chris stops and turns back, saying that he must find Rose. He then disappears into the fog which disappears along with him, and Heather and Vincent return to reality.

So, after all the explanation of this movie and from what i think, i really love horror movie. IMMA BIG FAN. Even with the screaming and shouting, i never fail to stop watching HORROR movies. Otherwise, i don't really think '' SILENT HILL'' is a typical horror movie . Silent Hill is mostly a psychological & supernatural horror movie with a hint of surrealism. Personally, I think that the mystery shrouding the town is what keeps the viewer in suspense and glued to their seats. I admit that the curiosity of exactly what the term 'THE DARKNESS IS COMING' is what grips me and even after watching the 2nd installment, I am still puzzled about why that even happens, especially the part where the walls begin to peel away. It's as if the walls and doors are burnt and peeled away to reveal the truth & the ugliness/dark side of Silent Hill. It really amazed me that so many scenes that caught my attention . Especially the '' NURSE''. The nurse is my favourite among all because of their attacks and movement. Their movement and attacks were so unique and never seen in any horror movies before.

This movie '' SILENT HILL RELEVATION'' had given me an idea for my SILHOUETTE. In conclusion, there are many inspiring scenes to help portray them in Silhouette. So, wait for my upcoming post of my personal Silhouette! :D

TATA :)
