COSMIC // STEAMPUNK.

S T E A M P U N K?

What comes to your mind when someone says '' steampunk''? Do you really know what it means ?
Have you ever seen a steampunk world in your life before?
How was steampunk invented?

Well at first,

truthfully i have heard about steampunk. Yes, when people mention steampunk to me, i definitely roughly know what it means and what it is.
Well, i took the effort to learn more about STEAMPUNK and i tend to look deeper into it.

By my surprise, i actually have watch STEAMPUNK films BEFORE! But it never crosses my mind at all. I have watched movies that relates to STEAMPUNK and even read a few comics about it.
I always refer it to '' machinery production''.
Of course , its machinery, but the whole idea of it is call :

To me, Steampunk has always been first and foremost a literary genre, or least a sub genre of science fiction and fantasy that includes social or technological aspects of the 19th century , which is known as ''steam'' & usually with some deconstruction of, re imagining of, or rebellion against parts of it which is known as  the '' punk''.

Steampunk as a genre in a nutshell. Steampunk has also cross-pollinated its way into other genres, so there is steampunk romance, steampunk erotica, and steampunk young adult fiction.

Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the Victorian era. In a post apocalyptic future power has regained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs STEAM POWER!  Steampunk perhaps is the most recognisably features of retro futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century. Likewise, it is rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, cultural , architectural , and art.

STEAMPUNK!!!!

yup thats right :)

Further more, after i have done researching and doing my study about  steampunk, i realised that steampunk is so unique in its way that combining with the victorian culture, fantasy and machinery, it creates such art that is so interesting and yet i am just so amazed about how they blend in together and bring it to the next level.  Of course i appreciate the Victorian era, machinery and fantasy are all equally special in their own ways. But applying it together, has made an unforgettable piece of work.
It definitely made a great impact.

Now, steampunk gadgets came into the real world. People has “steampunk ''d'' everything from computers, desks, telephone, watches and guitars to cars, motorcycles, and whole houses. How cool is that?

Here are some examples of STEAMPUNK LANDSCAPE

From here, i have shown you a few varieties of   steam punk landscapes. As you can see, this beautiful piece of work includes machinery. Look at how they combine machinery and fantasy together as one.  The structure of the buildings, the technology of the transportation, and the way how everything blends in well. If you look again , these images brings  makes you feel you're in another part of the world right? See how it makes so much difference.

Because of the popularity of steampunk, there is a growing movement towards establishing steampunk as a culture and lifestyle. Some fans of the genre adopt a steampunk aesthetic
through fashion, home decor, music, and film. This may be described as Victorianism which is the amalgamation of Victorian aesthetic principles with modern sensibilities and
technologies.

Moving on, let me show you what else i have understand about steampunk.

Steampunk, the aesthetic of Victorian clothing and steam powered technology, is known best for its old time costumes and eccentric, accessories, but there’s a whole side to the movement that’s exploding in popularity.

Any sci fi world has to have robots, as they’re a crucial focal point for the examination into humans and technology. With steampunk’s emphasis on pushing the boundaries of technological innovation, the creation of robots is a large factor in the genre. The clockwork, cogs and gears, element makes robots even more interesting because of their apparent fragility and uniqueness.

The only thing more fun than a clockwork robot is a clockwork robot hundreds of feet high.

Airships are one of the staples of steampunk, and their importance to the movement is well represented by the amount of artwork centered on them.

Just as fantasy subcultures have an intense culture that revolves around  mapping the various lands in fictional universes with beautiful sketches and old style maps, steampunk has schematics of the intricate clockwork machines and attachments that are required in any interesting steampunk tale.

As any steampunk world is part of a fictional universe, some artists tend to take the aesthetic into a more abstract direction. They dream of worlds in which animal and machine are combined, or where machines have become so advanced under steam power that they’re as ingrained as cars are in our world.

The combination of old style stateliness with action and wild accessories lend an interesting duality to these characters.
Victorian landscapes and visions of classic city centers is always beautiful. When you add the steampunk aesthetic, these landscapes can transcend what is truly possible and become utopian. The steampunk emphasis on machines and technology allow artists to incorporate incredibly interesting elements.

Transportation is a fun element in any steampunk fiction. Tubes, fast railroad cars, and powered bicycles are just some examples of the shaky steam powered vehicles that are common.

Furthermore, here are some videos i have found :

steampunk at OXFORD , where everyone dresses up :)

This is an inspire short film produced by aurora. My personal favourtie.

This is the animated version of steampunk.

Steampunk has had my attention for a while now, and fascinated me with their attention to detail.  Steampunk mods for computers have been springing up all over the place, with varying degrees of modification.  The great thing about Steampunk, in my opinion, is that it focuses on the aesthetic, with form and function both being important.  But also, there is a huge focus on technologies that have been abandoned because of varying reasons.

As such, there are very different ideas as to what makes Steampunk “Steam”.  Some say it requires the presence of some sort of Steam component, such as a steam engine.  . Still others focus on the gothic and punk aspects with brass and leather thrown in. The thing is, they are all correct in their assumptions!  Steampunk is still in it’s infancy, and more people are finding that they fit in this designation.

HOPE YOU GUYS ENJOYED AND OH YES, MY OWN VERSION OF STEAMPUNK DRAWING WILL BE OUT SOON! :D
